Mixed Media, Painting, Photography

For several years I have had the privilege to photograph Boston Roller Derby. I knew nothing of the sport except the 1950’s version of hair pulling, elbowing, pushing, and tripping. Today’s sport has many rules to make the it a real sport that takes skill, strategy, strength, persistence, team work, finesse, and many other athletic abilities. It is complicated, intense and made up of a very diverse group of women who love the sport, are very good at it and who respect and care for each other. It is a wonderful game to watch and it takes time to understand. I hope to convey in my photographs that love and its intricacies.
